Good money skills help individuals and families manage financial stress, work towards meeting their goals and assist in securing their financial wellbeing. Yet while many Australians would like to improve their financial situation they don’t always know how to get started.

MoneySmart Week can help. It is an independent, not-for-profit initiative designed to raise awareness of the tools and support available, and show Australians of all ages that they can take simple steps that make a big difference to their finances.

MoneySmart Week is the focal point for a range of activities around the nation, including:

  • A call to action for all Australians to: ‘Do a Money Health Check.
  • The provision of a free, online Money Health Check tool on the MoneySmart Week website (moneysmartweek.org.au).
  • A National Awards program to recognise good practice in financial literacy.
  • Promotion of existing money management programs, tools and resources
  • A range of special activities and events in workplaces and the community.

Who is behind MoneySmart?

MoneySmart Week is a national initiative of Financial Literacy Australia Limited (FLAL), a not-for-profit organisation established in 2012.

Led by Paul Clitheroe AM, FLAL is made up of people who are leaders in their respective fields. They bring passion, commitment and expertise to advancing Australians’ financial literacy. MoneySmart Week is supported by an organising committee of volunteers from over 50 organisations from the business, community and government sectors.

To date, ICG has supported the initiative in three important ways:

  1. Our Financial Services Practice Leader, David Moloney, was appointed as Elected Chairman of the Executive Committee of National Money Smart Week in early 2012. Prior to this, David had been actively championing a National Financial Literacy Day with over 50 key supporters.
  2. One of our affiliates, Tom Key, who is also ICG’s Chief of Staff, has provided program advisory and project management support directly to the National Secretariat and Executive Committee.
  3. Our Production department has assisted with polishing of high-level presentation materials.

ICG is pleased to be part of such an important initiative.
